LABRADOR
Fly Fishing Only - Barbless Hooks
AWESOME LAKE LODGE

Brook Trout
Awesome Lake Lodge first opened in 1991, and offers "fly fishing only" for giant brook trout on Awesome Lake and the connecting English River system. Not only is this one of the most picturesque areas of Labrador, but you will be fly fishing in one of its most unique rivers, the English River, which contains no other species except Eastern brook trout. Its cold, crystal-clear waters are home to giant brook trout which provide a battle equal to any freshwater game fish.
The lodge is located some 85 air miles from Goose Bay, Labrador, and is the only fishing facility on the entire Awesome Lake and English River watershed. Nestled beneath the highest peaks of the Mealy Mountains, the scenery is unequaled.

We provide four newly built semi-private guest cabins. In each cabin we supply sleeping bags with removable liners, pillows, towels, and face clothes. Each of the cabins is heated by a wood burning stove. The main building, also completely renovated, includes a kitchen, dining/social area and two new bathrooms equipped with showers and flush toilets. Separate cabins now house the staff. Meals are country-style, excellent and plentiful. Shore lunches are provided for extended exploratory trips down river. Let us know if you have special dietary needs or favorite foods, and we'll do our best to accommodate you. We supply a guide for each two anglers. Boats and motors are used for lake fishing and to access several inlets flowing from the mountains. We have walking trails cut to provide easier access to the river, which begins within a few hundred feet of the lodge.
Overnight excursions further down river are arranged for the fit and adventuresome. Canoes and short hikes will carry you to areas which receive very little angling pressure. You will stay "under canvas", with campsite and meals prepared by your guide. A real explorer can reach pools holding brookies that have never seen an artificial fly!
The best routing to Goose Bay from most points in the USA is via Air Canada and its partner airlines in the United States. Although various routes exist, we have found that connecting to the Canadian carriers in Boston, Newark, Toronto, Montreal or Halifax will usually offer the best routing to Labrador.
Upon arrival in Goose Bay, you will require an overnight stay at a local hotel. We arrange block rates with these facilities and can assist you with your lodging needs. We also meet your incoming flight and provide ground transportation while in Goose Bay.

Pre-arranged float equipped aircraft are arranged to transport you and your party to the lodge early each Sunday morning. We reserve the right to ship cargo and staff on aircraft travelling between the lodge and Goose Bay which is on a “space available” basis.
Floatplane operation in and out of Goose Bay is subject to visual flight rules. We are not responsible for accommodations in Goose Bay made necessary by delays due to poor flying weather. Your rate will not be reduced if for any reason your arrival in Goose Bay is delayed or if poor weather prevents you from going to camp. By the same token, you will not be charged for extra time spent at the lodge due to inclement weather.
The panorama of the highest peaks of the Mealy Mountains, patches of snow dotting their slopes, greets you each morning as you awaken. The scenery is equal to any in other remote places of the world. The lake and nearby river system contains huge brook trout which provide an exciting battle on the end of your fly rod. Your double-occupancy cabins are very quaint and rustic, heated by a wood burning stove, with full baths up at the main lodge only steps away. Meals are tailored to fit dietary needs and the menu contains a wide variety of healthy, mouth-watering dishes.

EAGLE LAKE LODGE
Brook Trout & Northern Pike

Our fly fishing trips include accommodations, all prepared meals featuring home-style cooking, a fishing guide shared between two anglers, charter flight to the fishing lodges and return, plus all amenities for your comfort and safety.
The brook trout fishing is some of the best to be found in Labrador, both in quantity and quality of fish which average three to six pounds, some even larger. Our weekly fly fishing trips are reasonably priced.
The remote headwaters of world-renowned Eagle River, lying about 60 air miles to the south of Goose Bay, contain some of the finest fishing for brook trout and Northern pike to be found in Canada.
Originally built in 1968, Eagle Lake Fishing Lodge has been rebuilt on the site of the old fishing camp and upgraded to contain all modern amenities. Anglers will enjoy the remoteness of a Canadian fishing trip while enjoying the warmth of a comfortable facility “in the middle of nowhere”.Eagle Lake's double A frame fishing lodge offers all aspects of home comfort for the angler. This Canadian Fishing Lodge has six double occupancy bedrooms, each complete with full bathroom facilities, including showers. Twenty-four hour electricity is supplied by our own generating system
Accessible only by floatplane, Eagle Lake fishing lodge has been hosting generations of fishermen for more than three decades, and careful resource management has ensured that the fishing today is as good or better than it was three decades ago.
Renovations to the fishing lodge include accommodations for 12 guests in six modern double-occupancy (non-smoking) bedrooms, each equipped with private shower, toilet and sink. Entry through our "mud room" allows anglers to leave waders, vests, and equipment in a secure area where wet clothes can dry out and fishing gear is safely stored.
The fully equipped and staffed kitchen is also new, containing all modern conveniences and appliances for preparation of tasty meals. The two-story, double "A" frame main building has a common area for dining and socializing on the main floor. A second lounge upstairs is our designated smoking area where one can relax with an after-dinner drink, or tie flies on the fishing lodge's fly tying bench in preparation for the next day's adventure.
Anglers have only to step in front of the fishing lodge and cast to catch brook trout averaging up to four pounds, but seasoned fishing guides are there to take you further afield in comfortable Gander River boats for more lively action at the lake's inlet and outlet.
Shallow, weedy areas of the watershed contain Northern pike of 20 pounds and more, providing a challenge for fly fishers who choose to take them on light tackle. Eagle Lake fishing lodge offers a combination of comfort, remoteness, and great Canadian fishing opportunities that will appeal to young and old alike.
Some 60 miles to the south of Goose Bay, Labrador, Canada lies the headwaters of the world-renowned Eagle River and our facilities at Eagle Lake Sportfishing Lodge. Strategically located at a narrow section of the lake, moving water directly in front of the fishing lodge yields huge Eastern brook trout and Northern pike. Angling further afield at inlets and outlets is provided by our sportfishing guides who will transport you in stable Gander River boats, where you may fish from the boats or wade the numerous pools. Eagle Lake forms a considerable portion of the headwaters of the Eagle River. While all of the water in this watershed is of a freestone type, limestone-like slicks are numerous, and they are a joy to the dry-fly fisherman. Within a short distance of the fishing lodge, anglers can fish virtually any type of water they prefer. Brook Trout feed on stone flies, mayflies and caddis which abound and make-up the trout's main diet.
For the adventuresome angler there are still virgin waters to explore in our sportfishing areas. The same is true at our sister site, Awesome Lake Lodge, where the only species is Eastern brook trout which abound in more than 30 miles of river.
The season runs from the first week of June to the middle of August. Our package is $3995 in U. S. funds including taxes and license fees.
A non-refundable deposit of $1000 US is payable to confirm bookings, with the balance due 60 days prior to the start of your trip. Non-resident angling permits are available at the lodge.
We supply a guide for each two anglers, and have boats and motors for lake fishing and access to the rivers which feed into and exit from Eagle Lake. Eagle Lake has had a minimum of angling pressure for the past decade through retirement of the former owners, and most of these wild fish have never seen an "artificial fly."
